Dear Waterbury Historical Society Members,
Ahead of our upcoming Annual Meeting, we are sharing the proposed amendments to the Society's bylaws and the proposed annual budget for your review.
The bylaws amendments are intended to improve how the Society operates, clarify responsibilities, and strengthen accountability. Some of the more significant changes include:
Board and officer responsibilities: Clarifying duties and strengthening oversight of finances, staff, and Society operations.
Committees : Better defining the roles of committees, volunteers, and staff.
Membership and meetings: Updating membership provisions, establishing clearer meeting procedures, and allowing for remote participation.
Financial accountability: Strengthening budget oversight, spending authority, and conflict-of-interest provisions.
These changes are intended to provide guidance for those serving the Society, improve communication and accountability, and help ensure the organization's long-term stability. They also recognize the important contributions of our volunteers while establishing clearer responsibilities for staff and leadership.
We are also sharing the proposed annual budget so members have an opportunity to review the Society's financial plans and priorities before the meeting. Both documents will be presented for consideration at the Annual Meeting. We encourage members to review them in advance and welcome any questions or feedback.
Thank you for your continued involvement and support of the Waterbury Historical Society.
Sincerely,
Ryan Geary
WHS, Vice President
